Among women with persistent vulvar itching, pain, or a suspicious lesion, biopsy of the skin of the vulva may be needed. A simple office procedure, vulvar biopsy can quickly and nearly painlessly lead to the correct diagnosis. This 5-minute video demonstrates one technique for performing a vulva biopsy, using vulvoscopy to identify the biopsy site, local anesthetic, and a Keys biopsy punch to obtain the specimen. Illustrated is the use of anesthetic and surgical techniques to minimize bleeding.
